Mermaids of Japan

Today, Mysterious Universe brings us an article by Brent Swancer, The Mysterious Mermaids of Japan.

"Mermaid lore is as varied as the many cultures it originates from. As a nation surrounded by the sea, it is perhaps no surprise that Japan too has its own long tradition of mermaids."

The article includes a number of photos and sketches. These mermaids of Japan may not look like what you would expect.

There have been a number of accounts of mermaid sightings in Japanese waters over the years.

"In 1610, a British captain allegedly saw one such mermaid from a pier at the port of Sentojonzu."

The lengthy article makes for interesting reading, though the photos may make for interesting dreams.

Mermaids vs Humans

You know the wise old saying, “The seaweed is always greener in somebody else’s lake.”

An article at Oh My Disney attempts to answer the important question, "Is it better to be a human, or is it better to be a mermaid."

With a little help from Ariel and friends, we tally up the pros and cons. Can you predict the outcome of this very scientific study?
