In celebration of the Cynthia Mermaid 100th blog post, I am having a contest. There will be fun and games and merfolk and a crazy dolphin... But be warned, this contest will be a bit of a challenge.
In celebration of the Cynthia Mermaid 100th blog post, I am having a contest. There will be fun and games and merfolk and a crazy dolphin... But be warned, this contest will be a bit of a challenge.
1. This page will serve as a source for the rules of the contest, as well as a source for clues for finding the solution. Remember that merfolk can be elusive, so you may occasionally lose your way. You can always return here and continue.
2. The first task you will undertake is determining the value of six numbers, which will be referred to as Value A through Value F. In addition to determining the correct value of these numbers, you will need to find the formula for using the numbers to produce the final answer.
3. Once you have the final answer to the contest, send Cynthia an email with the following information: Your name and location as it should be announced if you are the winner, your address for the purpose of mailing the prizes, your email address so you can be notified, and your answer to the contest. Only one answer is permitted per person, subsequent answers will replace previous ones. Cynthia's email address can be found at the bottom of this page.
4. Those participating in the contest are asked to not share their answers with others. This includes: mass emails, blog posts, blog comments, social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and so on. If sharing becomes a problem, I reserve the right to cancel the contest. Families may work on the contest together, of course, but please avoid spoilers.
5. Loot being awarded to the first place winner of this contest includes:

7. The contest will run from May 20, 2013 until June 30, 2013. At the close of the contest, a drawing will be made from the correct answers to determine the winner. The winner will be notified by email, and will be announced in a subsequent blog post. A second place drawing will be made as well, in case it is needed.
8. If no correct answers are received before July 1, 2013, the contest will be extended, and the first person to submit the correct answer will be declared the winner. Only one entry may be submitted per day.
9. If any errors in the contest materials are discovered, a correction will be made as soon as possible. A log will be placed at the bottom of this page to keep players up to date on any changes. The log will also contain frequently asked questions and answers.
10. The contest is open to US residents, except where prohibited by law. Those residing outside the US may enter, providing they can arrange shipment of their prizes from a US entity.
11. Some statistics: Recently, Cynthia Mermaid readers have visited from the United States, Germany, France, United Kingdom, India, Canada, Brazil, Netherlands, Australia, and Russia. Hugs and splashes to you all!

13. Vendors that wish to add prizes to this contest will be acknowledged in rule 5, above. The acknowledgment will include a link to their web site.
14. The final answer to this contest is a single positive integer. If you should end up with a negative fraction, for example, it would be best to 'go back to the drawing board' and try again.
15. When you see a small sailboat, be sure to click on it.
16. Personal information submitted with contest entries will not be shared with third parties that are not a supplier of a prize. Additional prizes will be shipped directly from the donors, rather than being sent to me first. See rule 13, above.
17. You must be at least 18 years old to enter this contest.
18. If the first place winner declines to accept any of the prizes listed in rule 5, then these prizes will be awarded to the second place winner, if any. Should the second place winner decline to accept any of the same prizes, they will not be awarded.

22 June 2013 - At the time of this log entry, no final answers have been submitted. There is still time to get an entry in, and the odds of winning should be quite good! Yes, the contest isn't easy, but the pirates aren't going to just walk up to you and hand you their treasure!
