Mermaid Economy

Our first story this week takes us inside the mermaid economy, of professional mermaids, and the places that hire them. In this story from Fast Company, writer Elizabeth Segran takes us to the Dive Bar in Sacramento, California.

Dive Bar Mermaids
Here we meet Rachel Smith, the head mermaid at Dive Bar. Ms. Smith and the other original mermaids at the bar were trained by Los Angeles based Linden Wolbert. The article continues with a segment on Mermaid Linden and Fin Fun founder, Karen Browning.

"Last month, the company (Fin Fun) sold 50,000 mermaid tails, which cost a little over $100, and sales appear to be growing."

Did I read that right? Fifty Thousand? The article is a great read, and there are some cool photos and videos that you will enjoy as well.

Mermaid Hannah

This collection of photos of well known mermaid Hannah Fraser are simply beautiful. The article is from Isla Rose at Bored Panda, and is in honor of their charity of the month, The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

"Hannah takes photographs in the ocean with many different creatures but mostly whales, dolphins, sharks and manta rays in an act of advocacy for their plight."

Best wishes and starfishes,
