If you have been reading this blog for a while, you can begin to appreciate just how large the national merfolk community has become. Not to mention the world merfolk community!

Mermaid Wedding

This week, the Daily Mail UK has a story on a Florida hotel, so something must be up!

The Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort in south Florida is now offering mermaid wedding packages, complete with tails. This is great for merfolk that never want to get out of the water!

"The pair are assisted by their own mermaid officiant who will help guide them through the ceremony in the deep end of the pool which is approximately eight feet deep."

Mermaids and Shoes

One does not often see the words 'mermaid' and 'shoe' in the same sentence. In this article by Sarah Harrison Smith, we are introduced to two mermaid tales with unique titles.

The first story is “The Mermaid and the Shoe” by K.G. Campbell. Minnow lives beneath the sea with her father, King Neptune, and her 49 sisters. Unlike her many sisters, little Minnow just doesn't fit in.

The second tale is “The Mermaid’s Shoes” by Sanne te Loo. In this story we meet Mia, a little girl of about 6 that returns home from a beach vacation, yearning for the sea.

Stop Whale Hunting

The United Nations Court recently ordered Japan to stop whale hunting. This is a welcome ruling, and one that all mermaids and mermen can applaud.

"The Australian government challenged the notion that Japan hunts whales for scientific study, which lead to Monday's ruling."

Dolphin Chat

Human/Dolphin communication took a small step forward in August of 2013 when a computer detected a specific dolphin whistle that had been created by Wild Dolphin Project creator, Denise Herzing, and her team.

"As well as boosting our understanding of animal behaviour, the moment hints at the potential for using algorithms to analyse any activity where information is transmitted – including our daily activities."

Little Mermaid Film

Sofia Coppola is set to direct a live action film adaptation of The Little Mermaid. The film will follow the original story penned by Hans Christian Andersen.

"Sadly, neither Sebastian the crab or Flounder the fish appear."

It is said that Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame is being considered to play the lead role in the film. Sugarscape has this story.

Train's 2013 Tour

Train's 2013 Mermaids of Alcatraz tour featured audio, lighting and effects by LMG Touring. In an article found at Live Design Online, LMG describes the design of the lighting for the tour and even includes a video example.

Train, you may remember, is the group behind the excellent single, Mermaid. It is well worth a listen.

Whales and Mermaids

Even if you are not an author, you should enjoy this article by Greg Strandberg, Whales, Mermaids and Your Publishing Long-Tail.

According to Mr. Strandberg, authors come in two types, whales and mermaids. Which might you be?

"Whales have been at this game called publishing for some time and know the tips and tricks. Mermaids, however, are new to these waters, and often feeling like they’ll drown in them."

Aquarium Mermaids

This just in! Mermaids of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park will be performing underwater shows at the South Carolina aquarium April 12th thru 20th.

"The entertainers will perform three shows daily at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. during their weeklong stint at the SC Aquarium."
