Save Our Oceans

You may remember Project Mermaids, celebrities and ocean activists photographed as mermaids to support activities to save our oceans and beaches. Photographers Angelina Venturella and Chiara Salomoni started the project in 2012, and the collection is due to be available this fall as a coffee-table book.

"To me, the basic idea of a modern mermaid is someone who spends a lot of time in the water and respects, loves and cares for aquatic life."

Learn more about the project, and enjoy a sampling of the beautiful photographs, in this article from The Huffington Post.

Mesmerizing
Mermaid Raina and sister

In an article found at The Globe and Mail of Canada, the mermaid movement is described as 'mesmerizing'. Classes, conventions, and the growing number of professional merfolk have caught the attention of the public at large.

"Mermaids are not merely something to be admired, it seems, but to emulate, despite our biological deficits. Mermaid conventions and classes are bubbling up everywhere."

The article includes portions of interviews with Mermaid Linden Wolbert, Mermaid Raina, and others.
