Real and Not Real

Over in what must be a parallel universe, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has decided that mermaids are real. This is not the NOAA I remember.

Meanwhile, marine biologist Sheanna Steingass recently penned a guest post for Deep Sea News in which she shares her five reasons why mermaids can't physically exist. Be sure to also take a look at the comments section where Sheanna goes back and forth with reader Fred, "You consider only “fish” parts, but what about cetacea parts?" High fins for Fred!

For the Love of Mermaids

Siren's Secret is the name of the debut novel by Debbie Herbert. With a tagline of 'Mermaids. Murder. Mayhem,' this title appears to be darker than the other mermaid themed novels we have looked at recently.

"I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of mermaids, probably stemming from plenty of childhood vacations at the beach."

Learn more about Siren's Secret at the Paranormal Romance Blog, where you can also find out how the cover was made.

Dolphin Superpod

Recently, our dolphin friends came out in great numbers off the Canadian coast and swam alongside a ferry for about three minutes.

Arbroath has the details in a recent blog post. Swim on over, and find out how the dolphins brought the ferry travelers closer together.

Best Costume

Halloween has come and gone, and the members of Gold Mermaid (me, Danny Dolphin, and a few random angelfish) have voted on our favorite costume of the year 2013.

And the winner is...  Patrick Stewart?

Best wishes and starfishes,
